Yarra Trams GGB

Project Description

National RoofCare has finalised installation works on the Yarra Trams Greener Government Buildings (GGB) project. The project has seen Height Safety Systems installed and Skylights replaced across 6 operational depots. Melbourne proudly hosts the largest operational tram network in the world with more than 475 trams, 1,700 stops and 250km of double track.

The Height Safety Systems will provide safe access to approximately 99kW of solar which was installed across the depots. National RoofCare provided in house services for both the design and construction of the Height Safety Systems thanks to a qualified team of engineers and trades. A highlight of the systems was the powder coated red access ladders that kept the sites heritage compliant while still providing safe passage to the roof.

Skylight replacements are commonly long overdue at commercial sites, often becoming fibrous and developing a build up of lichen. The skylights at the depots were providing a very poor amount of light into the sheds and are thought to be up to 50 years old. Once replaced, the sheds were full of natural light giving the maintenance
teams better conditions to continue the up-keep of the world largest tram network.

Thanks to the team for all the hard work they have put in over the last several months.
